Cities house underserved outdoor customers – Eddie Bauer

The CEO of US-based outdoor wear brand Eddie Bauer has said the group could nearly double its footprint with another 200 stores as he thinks city locations are underserved.

Mike Egeck told Fortune magazine cities such as New York have an untapped customer base, and could be good locations for extra stores to add to the 300-strong portfolio.

“What we find in the outdoor market is there are a tonne of people that may only go hiking two or three times a year, or ski four or five times a year, but they still define themselves as a hiker or skier,” Egeck said. “But then they’ll also wear [the clothes] day to day as an identifying badge that says, ‘I am an outdoor customer’.”
