US spends less on imported clothes from Bangladesh
14/11/2014
Figures from the US Department of Commerce’s Office of Textile and Apparel (OTEXA) said importers in the US brought in clothing worth just over $3.75 billion from Bangladesh between January and September this year, a decline of around 2% year on year.
Apparel industry commentators in Bangladesh have linked the downturn to the Rana Plaza incident in April 2013, in which 1,135 garment workers were killed and thousands more injured.
OTEXA published figures that show an increase in sourcing from Vietnam and India over the same period.
