Decathlon quietly drops Oxylane name

French business newspaper Les Echos has reported that the parent group of sports retailer and manufacturer Decathlon has “without fanfare” dropped the name it has been using since 2008, Oxylane.

According to the newspaper, the family of founder Michel Leclercq, which is still the majority shareholder, wanted to return to a simpler business structure and one that is closer to Mr Leclercq’s original vision of making quality sports clothing and equipment available to the highest possible number of people.

It quoted corporate communications director, Philippe Dourcy, as confirming this desire for a return to greater simplicity for the sake of consumers, suppliers and partners.
