Rana Plaza: 42 people charged

Police in Bangladesh have charged 42 people linked to the collapse in 2013 of a garment manufacturing complex at Rana Plaza, near Dhaka, with culpable homicide. The authorities in Bangladesh announced the charges on June 1.

Owner of the building, Sohel Rana, the former mayor of the local council, Refat Ullah, and the owners of the five garment factories located in the complex are among the 42. Local council officials and engineers also face charges, which follow a two-year investigation into the incident.

Other charges relate to violations of building regulations.
