Montane and Rab sign up early for new Pertex fabrics

Specialist supplier of technical fabrics to the outdoor apparel industry Pertex has launched a new product called Shield AP and a lighter version of its existing Shield+ waterproof breathable fabric.

It describes Shield AP as a high-performance waterproof breathable fabric that features “an advanced air-porous membrane to offer the highest levels of durability and performance”. The company says this fabric will offer enhanced comfort across a range of weather conditions and environments and that its durable construction means it will offer reliable protection throughout the lifetime of a garment.

The new version of Shield+ is now the company’s lightest three-ply waterproof breathable fabric. It offers “extreme wind and water protection with excellent breathability” to create what Pertex calls “the ultimate waterproof performance fabric for fast-moving outdoor athletes”. It says the fabric will work well in apparel for a wide range of activities such as alpine climbing, cycling, adventure racing and skiing.

“Pertex fabrics are developed to match the specific needs of the end-user,” said Steve Laycock, brand director of Pertex, at the time of the launch.

Outdoor brands Montane and Rab have already incorporated Pertex Shield AP into finished garments. Rab has reengineered its award-winning Flashpoint jacket for men and women with Pertex Shield+, while Montane has used the same fabric in its Minimus 777 Jacket and Minimus 777 Pull-On jackets. Montane has also incorporated the new Pertex Shield AP into its Air Jacket.
