China’s next cotton crop to be the lowest in more than ten years

Analysts of the global cotton market have said they expect China’s cotton output to fall by 11% in the 2015-2016 season.

Specialist industry publication Cotlook said in its monthly report for June 2015 that the area of land devoted to cotton planting for next season is “significantly reduced” in China. Based on the figures it has seen, Cotlook said it estimates a crop of a little under 5.7 million tonnes, which would be China’s lowest level since the 2003-2004 season.
