Salewa signs up for soles from Michelin

Italian mountain footwear and equipment brand Salewa has agreed to use technology from tyre manufacturer Michelin in the soles of two of the styles in its footwear collection for spring-summer 2016.

Michelin announced a joint-venture with Chinese textile manufacturer Jihua at the end of 2014 to make high-performance soles for the technical footwear market. The two partners said at the time that they believe the footwear market is “hungry for technology”.

Two Salewa models, Lite Train and Ultra Train, will use Michelin technology in their soling systems, each using different blends of rubber and combinations of grip systems Michelin uses already in its tyres.

Michelin said on presenting its new partnership with Salewa that the shoes’ soles will work on a wide variety of terrain and have a built-in ability to self-clean.
