Safil publishes its first sustainability report

04/09/2015
Italian spinner Safil has published a sustainability report for 2014, the first time it has made information of this kind available. Versions in English and in Italian are available on the company’s website.

It said it was inspired to carry out the exercise because of “the market’s ever-greater awareness of the interdependence between economic, environmental and social matters in business” and the need for companies to offer greater transparency with regard to their business models.

“Many of the matters dealt with in this document are simply a rationalisation of Safil’s way of behaving and doing business,” it said on announcing the report, listing as components of that approach listening to customers, working as a team, honesty, reliability in relations with suppliers, respect for the environment and support for the local community.

Biella-based Safil, which also has production facilities in Bulgaria, gained bluesign certification at the end of 2014 for its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its entire textile chain. It said at the time that it will encourage its suppliers to increase their sustainability efforts too.
