Investment firm acquires “innovative, dynamic” Swedish sports gear brand

Bahrain-based investment group Investcorp has moved to acquire POC, a Swedish producer of helmets and other protective equipment for gravity sports and cycling enthusiasts. The initial announcement on October 8 made no mention of the value of the transaction, but subsequent statements from Investcorp advisers, Gattai Minoli Agostinelli & Partners, said previous owner, Black Diamond had sold for $65 million.

Founder and chief executive of POC, Stefan Ytterborn, said he was sure the acquisition would help the sports company continue to grow revenues and increase the speed of its expansion into new markets. It already has a presence in 40 markets around the world.

For his part, Gilbert Kamieniecky, Investcorp’s president of European corporate investment, said his group had been attracted to the Swedish company because POC is “one of the fastest growing, most dynamic and most innovative companies in the sports equipment sector”.
