Mexico the bright spot for US cotton exports

Analysts of the global cotton market have said exporters from the US have experienced a large downturn in demand from two of their main markets, China and Turkey, and that Mexico is the main source of any good news that’s going around.

Specialist industry publication Cotlook said in its monthly report for October 2015 that Mexican cotton mills have booked “a sizeable volume of US cotton for this season and next” and that sales into the Mexican market are around 10% ahead of the levels of this time last year.

However, the report also said that sales to the two of the biggest markets for US cotton in previous years, Turkey and China, are down by a considerable margin. Current demand from Turkey is at 35% of the level from a year ago. Current demand from mills in China is at just 12% of last year’s levels.
