ILO says new round of garment factory inspections in Bangladesh is complete
24/11/2015
The ILO supported government efforts to inspect almost 1,500 factories in Bangladesh before the end of October 2015. This figure is in addition to the 2,000-plus garment factories that have already been inspected as part of the efforts of the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety and the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety, the two brand-led groups set up to improve worker safety in Bangladesh following the disaster at Rana Plaza in 2013.
Following the inspections, the ILO said it would now work closely with the authorities in Bangladesh to make sure factory owners carry out remediation work identified as necessary during inspectors’ examination of the current state of the facilities at Bangladeshi garment factories.
