Sports and outdoor innovation accolade for Coolcore

Thermoregulation fabrics producer Coolcore won the award for best innovation in sports and outdoor apparel at the Future Materials Awards at the 2015 ITMA exhibition in Milan. The New Hampshire-based company won the accolade for its patented line of cooling fabrics.

Chief executive, Kevin McCarthy, said on receiving the award that these are “exciting times” for technical textiles and that Coolcore is in a good position “at the forefront of chemical-free thermoregulation”.

Coolcore’s technology uses a proprietary combination of fibres and cross-sections for three specific functions: wicking, moisture transportation and controlling the rate at which the moisture evaporates from the garment to achieve a cooling effect. These components can help to make a fabric’s surface temperature up to 30% lower than skin temperature, the company has said. And because Coolcore technology is chemical-free, the performance benefits never wash out.
