Swedish outdoor brand Haglöfs has announced that it is awarding its scholarship prize for 2015 to Johanna Davidsson, a Swedish nurse who is preparing for a two-month attempt to ski alone in Antarctica next year.

Ms Davidsson is aiming to ski to the South Pole, but starting further away than most expeditions at Gould Bay. The distance she must cover is 1,400 kilometres. She has said she hopes to inspire other women adventurers.

The Haglöfs scholarship has a value of €5,000 overall, half of which the company awards in cash and the other half in clothing and equipment.
