Viscose suppliers to undergo independent verification in 2016

Not-for-profit organisation CanopyStyle, which campaigns to encourage the apparel industry to protect endangered forests, has announced that it now has the support of 55 brands across the world.

Recent additions to the list of signatory companies include Arcadia, C&A China and Lindex.

Founder and executive director of the Canada-based organisation, Nicole Rycroft, said on announcing the development: “With 55 brands representing $85 billion in annual sales now joining together to protect forests there is a clear market signal to fabric producers: [they must] eliminate sourcing from endangered forests.”

A key focus for CanopyStyle is that, under its auspices, the campaign will see the global viscose supply chain undergo independent verification audits in 2016 to establish that fabrics are free of raw material from ancient or endangered forests.
