Chemours becomes Bluesign partner
07/01/2016
Chemours’ global business director for diversified technologies, Jeffrey Jirak, said that being “a responsible member of the global marketplace” is a top priority for his company, particularly in the textile value chain. “We are eager to leverage the Bluesign system to continuously improve our environmental performance and product offerings for a more sustainable future,” he added.
One of the first things Chemours will do as a member of the Swiss certification group’s network of partners will be to carry out a Bluesign evaluation of its Zelan R3 finish (commercially branded as Teflon EcoElite). Chemours describes it as “the first renewably sourced, non-fluorinated fabric treatment for durable water repellency” and as “breakthrough technology” because it is, the company insists, up to three times more durable than existing non-fluorinated repellents, delivering “excellent performance after every wash, year after year”.
Teflon EcoElite contains 63% renewably sourced, plant-based raw materials that are not derived from food-sources or from genetically modified crops, the company says, adding that textile mills have welcomed the new technology because of its performance capabilities and because, on using the new finish, they have experienced no detrimental effect on other qualities such as their fabrics’ feel and appearance.
Chemours had its full range of textile products on show at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2016 in Salt Lake City (January 7-10).
