Fair Wear Foundation combats violence against women garment workers

Campaign group Fair Wear Foundation has launched a new initiative aimed at combatting violence against women garment workers in Bangladesh. It chose the eve of International Women’s Day to launch the campaign.

It said violence against women is “one of the most widespread violations of human rights” in the garment industry and that verbal and physical abuse, sexual harassment, forced labour, assault and rape have been reported by “a disturbingly high percentage of workers” in the industry in Bangladesh.

Fair Wear Foundation said on announcing the new initiative that had received complaints from women who make apparel for the European market.
