Cargo ban affects UK-bound garment exports from Bangladesh

14/03/2016
Garment manufacturers have expressed concern about a cargo ban affecting direct flights between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. The Australian government imposed a similar ban at the end of 2015.

In a recent statement, the UK government said international security requirements at Dhaka international airport were not being met. As a result, it said cargo will not be allowed on direct flights from Dhaka to the UK until further notice.

Exporters can ship cargo to the UK on indirect flights, but airlines will now have to re-screen all consignments before the final leg of their journey to the UK. The UK government said it was working with the government in Bangladesh to help it improve security standards at Dhaka airport.
