Sneakers brand Simple ready to relaunch
16/03/2016
Simple Shoes first appeared in 1991, blending 1960s and 1970s cultural references with its California roots to make sports-inspired footwear. The brand’s success brought it to Deckers’ attention, but following the group’s acquisition of Sanuk at the start of this decade, it decided to stop selling Simple.
Deckers chief executive, Angel Martinez, said at the time: “Simple Shoes was the first brand to prove it’s possible to make eco-conscious footwear, and we’re proud to have accomplished all that we have. Given that there is some degree of overlap between Simple and Sanuk consumers, and Sanuk’s positive outlook and global appeal, we make this difficult decision knowing it is in the best interests of the brands, the company and its shareholders.”
After years of lying dormant, a group of footwear enthusiasts, including some of Simple’s original designers, are bringing the brand back to life and re preparing to relaunch a number of its original styles, starting with the OS sneaker.
