More Prato textile firms sign up for Detox campaign

An industry body in Tuscany, Confindustria Toscana Nord, has said an increasing number of Prato-based textile companies are committing to the Detox Project launched in 2011 by campaign group Greenpeace to encourage the elimination of hazardous chemicals from the global textile and apparel supply chain.

A first cluster of Prato companies joined Detox project earlier this year. At the end of March, Confindustria Toscana Nord hosted a conference under the banner ‘Prato in Detox’ and encouraged more Prato-based textile companies to sign up and to embrace “restrictive obligations”.

“Joining Detox will add value to the Prato companies’ commitment in favour of the environment and the protection of the health of workers and consumers”, explained Andrea Cavicchi, president of Confindustria Toscana Nord. “In Prato, sustainability is not just a fashionable claim, but a real work method that has always been part of our culture and has become strategic today.”
