French ideas at Techtextil North America

11/04/2016
Technical textile ideas from France will be on show at Techtextil North America for the first time this year, being presented at the Atlanta event (May 3-5) under the auspices of Techtera, the innovation cluster for textiles and flexible materials in the Auvergne-Rho^ne-Alpes region.

Dedicated to supporting innovation through research and development projects, the cluster links manufacturers, research laboratories, technical centres and schools. It has 115 members, 80% of which are small and medium enterprises.
Since 2005, 157 projects have been approved and funded through Techtera, for a total amount of €299 million.

In all, five Techtera projects will feature at Techtextil North America. These will include Silicotex, a silicone-based yarns and textiles idea that aims to use warp-knitted textiles for medical applications or for technical apparel.

Another of the ideas will be Smart Bandage, which uses microbial biosensors embedded in a medical dressing to detect wound infection, including hospital-acquired infections, as soon as possible.
