SATRA says it can now test thermoregularity of children’s shoes too

13/05/2016
Footwear testing and research organisation SATRA has added new foot form sizes to two of its laboratory-based tests to be able to carry out objective assessments of thermoregularity in children’s footwear.

The organisation uses a machine called STM 567 Endofoot to test shoes for advanced moisture management and for a whole-shoe thermal insulation value and cold rating. The Endofoot test machine uses a moulded foot form which incorporates electrical heating elements and water supply pipes that distribute moisture to the surface of the foot to simulate sweat.

This moulded foot form was previously available in three sizes only: UK adult sizes 4,
7 and 9. Now two new sizes have become available: UK adult size 1 and child size 10. SATRA has said this means children’s footwear can now be tested for thermal and moisture management.
