Bolivia announces closure of state-run textile firm

23/05/2016
The government of Bolivia announced in mid-May that production at state-owned textile and apparel manufacturer Enatex would cease, with the loss of 800 jobs.

Trade unions organised protests in the following days and workers from other sectors joined in support of Enatex workers.

Development minister, Verónica Ramos, said the government would turn the Enatec facility in La Paz into a technology service centre.

Enatex made yarns, fabrics and finished garments and had export clients in Argentina, Cuba, Brazil, Venezuela and Uruguay.
