South Korea opens new propylene facility
The opening ceremony has been held for a new propylene production facility in the South Korean port city of Ulsan, local media reported.
The propane dehydrogenation (PDH) facility for producing propylene, which can be used to make synthetic fibres, is the result of a joint venture between SK Gas, Saudi Arabia’s Advanced Petrochemical Company (APCO) and Kuwait’s Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC).
The facility, constructed by SK Advanced, is located on 96,000 square metres of land near Ulsan New Port through a total investment of $840.48 million. It has the potential to produce 600,000 tonnes of propylene annually which SK Gas plans to sell to both home and overseas markets.
The inauguration was attended by Jassim Al-Bedaiwi, Kuwaiti ambassador to South Korea, who praised PIC for being the first company from his country to invest directly in South Korea.
