Haglöfs happy with its anti-odour decision

Swedish outdoor brand Haglöfs has said it is pleased with a decision it took a number of years ago to eliminate the use of bacteria-killing technologies in its products and to use Lava odour-control technology from Sciessent instead.

A non-toxic, bluesign-approved technology that has no anti-bacterial functions, Haglöfs said recently that it has full confidence in Lava, which takes advantage of the physical features that occur naturally in zeolite, a negatively charged mineral with microscopic holes that  canattract and capture liquids and gases that might otherwise lead to bad odour in clothing or footwear.

As body odour compounds try to pass through a garment, Lava captures them, keeping the garment smelling fresh. When the garment is washed, the odour compounds are released and the technology regenerates the capacity to capture more odour compounds on the next wear.

Zeolites are naturally occurring minerals that form when volcanic stones and ash react with alkaline ground water. Lava contains synthetic zeolites to achieve a high level of purity.
