Research puts Billabong at the top in surfwear

Retailer feedback from across Australia has named Billabong as the country’s number-one surfwear brand.

Research carried out by US-based group ActionWatch, covering the views of 150 action sports retail shops in different parts of Australia. The result was that Billabong emerged as the dominant surfwear brand for men and women in 2015.

There was a return to profit for Billabong last year after four years of negative numbers and extensive cost-cutting programmes.

Chief executive Neil Fiske said he was pleased by the ActionWatch data and said it showed Billabong had been faithful to a promise it made at the start of its turnaround programme, to listen carefully to “core surf retailers”.
