BASF puts new propylene factory plan on hold

09/06/2016
German chemicals manufacturer BASF has announced a halt to a proposed project to build a plant in the US to make propylene from methane.

The proposed factory was to use methane from shale gas to make the compound, which has a wide range of applications.

BASF said it is still interested in the idea of producing propylene from shale gas but had been put off by current raw materials prices and market conditions. It said it believes the time is no longer right for “such a major investment”.
