UK consumers express a preference for cotton

Cotton brand Cotton USA has released details of new research into consumer clothing preferences in the UK.

Its main finding was that large percentages of the consumers who took part expressed a preference for cotton clothing over apparel made from synthetic materials. Fewer than 1% said they preferred clothes made from synthetic fibres. A further 2% said they preferred silk, while 80% said they preferred cotton or cotton blends.

Among the strongest reasons for people’s preference for cotton were comfort and “authenticity”, Cotton USA said.

Its international marketing manager, Stephanie Thiers-Ratcliffe, said on announcing the results of the study: “It is great to see consumers understanding the benefits of buying natural high-quality fibres.”
