Shimano completes Lazer Sport acquisition

02/09/2016
Cycling equipment and footwear brand Shimano Europe has completed its acquisition of specialist Belgian helmet provider Lazer Sport. The two companies initially announced the deal at the start of July.

Following regulatory clearances and other closing conditions, Shimano has confirmed that Lazer is now part of the group, along with other brands including Pearl Izumi and PRO.

Lazer managing director, Sean van Waes, and sales director, Peter Steenwegen, will remain part of the company’s management board and Lazer will retain its distinct brand identity.

Mr van Waes commented that the acquisition by Shimano will allow Lazer to concentrate on innovation, which he said is what it does best, and to become “the biggest head protection brand in the world” at a faster pace than it might have done without Shimano.

All Lazer staff will remain with the company at its base in Antwerp.
