Calida offers parents peace of mind on children’s clothes

Swiss linen clothing brand Calida and testing and research organisation Oeko-Tex are to take part in a discussion forum on September 16, examining the need for greater transparency in the children’s clothing supply chain. The forum is part of a children’s and young people’s fashion exhibition in Cologne.

In the build-up to the event, Oeko-Tex said labelling children’s clothes to assure parents the products are free from potentially harmful substances is one thing, but that giving them assurances of good environmental practice upstream and of fair treatment for textile workers is more challenging.

Oeko-Tex said it would seek to explain how some of the modules in its system can support brands, manufacturers and retailers as they “implement more responsible product practices along a more sustainable supply chain”.

Calida offers buyers the opportunity to scan a QR code on a garment label to track the production of the article. It has begun to put the Made in Green label, which Oeko-Tex took over from Spanish textiles organisation Aitex in 2015, on Calida clothing for men, women and children.

The Made in Green label provides information on the country in which production took place and which production facilities were involved. It also provides verification by an independent resource that the labelled textiles have been tested for harmful substances and that they have been manufactured using environmentally friendly technologies and in a socially responsible manner.
