Salewa to have 100 sales points in China before year-end

Italian outdoor footwear brand Salewa has said it will have 100 own-brand stores in China before the end of 2016, including flagship stores, dedicated spaces in department stores and shop-in-shop arrangements.

An earlier attempt by Salewa to make inroads into the Chinese market was unsuccessful and the Italian company withdrew for more than a year, but it has now returned with a new local partner, outdoor retail group Tutwo and is confident of success this time.

In recent comments to the organiser of the ISPO exhibition, Salewa’s regional manager for China, Claes Broqvist, said: “What we appreciate is the retail experience that this company (Tutwo) has. It is the leading retailer in the country. This will give us very good access to the customers.”

He said Salewa will focus particularly on north-east China, where winter and mountain sports are most popular, adding that the company’s “brand DNA is very much connected to mountaineering”.
