Argentina’s textile industry hit by job losses

11/10/2016
The trade union representing textile workers in Argentina says that the industry has seen 1,500 job losses so far in 2016. A further 4,000 workers have been temporarily laid-off.

Among the factories to have closed are TN&Platex in the province of Chaco and Top San Juan, while operations have been suspended at facilities in Tucumán, Catamarca, La Rioja and Chubut.

Earlier this year, the government said that industries that were not competitive would have to “transform”.
