All shoes will have their own IP address, academic says

An academic with expertise in information technology and cyber security has claimed that the Internet of Things will be all-pervasive in the near future.

Speaking in a discussion on BBC radio on November 1, Richard Aldrich, professor of information security at the university of Warwick, said: “In ten years’ time, everything will be connected. It will be impossible to buy a pair of shoes that doesn’t have an internet protocol (IP) address.”

He said viewing this coming together of what we wear and how we access and share information is simply “a recognition of the nature of our future”.
