Almost 60% of Europe’s PET bottles now being recycled

The volume of PET bottles collected for recycling across Europe increased by 5% year on year in 2015 to reach more than 1.8 million tonnes, according to a new survey carried out by specialist oil and chemicals research firm PCI Wood Mackenzie.

Petcore Europe, the Brussels-based body that represents the PET value chain in Europe, said the results of the survey indicate that 59% of all PET bottles in Europe were collected for recycling in 2015, 2% more than in 2014.

Petcore president, Roberto Bertaggia, said: “In the context of the circular economy, PET recycling has a crucial role.”
