In a recent report, Bloomberg quoted equipment provider Carving Ski Group that the number of ski resorts across China reached 568 last year, more than double the number that were in operation in 2010. The northern province of Jilin will have a total of 60 of those when it completes current projects to build three new “world-class” resorts, the report said; Jilin also has 500 winter sports schools.
According to Bloomberg, sports brand Li Ning is building a resort of its own in Shanxi.
For its part, Beijing has a plan in place to encourage 8 million of its citizens to become active in winter sports before 2022. Bloomberg said the city now has the largest youth ice hockey league in Asia with 130 teams.
