Pontetorto claims ‘world first’ with new polyamide fleece

Specialist Italian fabric developer Pontetorto introduced a new polyamide fleece at the November edition of Performance Days in Munich and claimed it as “a world first”.

It emphasised the new material’s biodegradability as one of its key attributes, saying that the use of biodegradable fabric in apparel manufacture will help diminish the threat to the environment that landfill represents.

The fibre Pontetorto has used to produce the new fleece is the first biodegradable polyamide 6.6; it decomposes back to its natural components after just three years, the company explained in the build-up to Performance Days, whereas it takes conventional polyamide 100 years to do the same.
