Sri Lanka plans textile cluster

24/11/2016
The Sri Lankan government has proposed the formation of a textile cluster, which it hopes will help boost the country’s economy.

The announcement was made by finance minister Ravi Karunanayake as he unveiled the budget for 2017. The cluster will include sizing, dyeing and finishing units.

The government plans to provide investment relief to businesses willing to participate in the venture. Garment exporters will be allowed to import branded products for reworking. They can then export them to countries where there is no preferential treatment, the government says.
