Merino wool sneaker makes its debut at ORWM

Performance insole technology provider OrthoLite has supplied its removable EcoOrthoLite footbed to Maine-based brand Giesswein for use in a new sneaker from the company. Giesswein is claiming a first for the shoe because the upper is made from merino wool. The shoe went on show for the first time at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City (January 9-12).

“The whole foot is wrapped in 100% natural, breathable, moisture-wicking merino wool, offering 360-degree comfort,” Giesswein said at the start of the event.

OrthoLite describes the footbed as being more environmentally friendly than conventional products because 20% of the oil-based material that would normally go in has been replaced by material made from a bio-oil substitute derived from castor beans.
