European Parliament wants to make sport a political priority

03/02/2017
The European Parliament has voted in favour of a report advocating an integrated approach to sports policy, which has good governance, accessibility and integrity at its heart. The report emphasises the relevance of sport as a driver of economic growth.

Finnish member of the European Parliament Hannu Takkula said: “The adoption of the report comes at a crucial moment as it will feed into the European Commission evaluation of sports policy in 2017.”

Proposals include making physical activity a political priority by offering tax exemptions or other forms of financial incentive to companies involved in promoting grassroots sports.
