German textile machinery industry association VDMA has said its members achieved double-digit growth in the value of their export sales in 2016. In the first ten months of the year, it confirmed year-on-year growth of 15.9%, reaching €523 million.

At a recent press conference to promote the Texprocess and Techtextil events in Frankfurt in May, VDMA general manager, Elgar Straub, said  figures he has seen suggest full-year growth of 11.7%. “We are shifting from low-tech to high-tech,” he added. He explained that Germany is an important supplier to the textile industry all around the world, but in particular to manufacturers in the more expensive markets, including the US and a number of European countries. “We have advanced technology,” he said. “Automation, digitisation and cloud solutions are the way of the future.”
