Number-one racket maker moves into tennis shoes

Babolat only began making rackets in 1994 after more than 100 years of limiting itself to the manufacture of the strings other racket-makers used. It powered its way to top spot by picking rising stars for sponsorship; it began working with Andy Roddick, Kim Clijsters and Rafael Nadal, for example, while they were all still junior players.
Now, though, the French company has launched two new styles of tennis shoe, the Jet and the Propulse Fury. The shoes are designed to be lightweight to allow players to move around the court and change direction as quickly as possible.
It worked with Michelin to design the shape, profile, structure, and rubber formulation of the sole of its shoes to meet what Babolat has called “the increasingly demanding needs of modern tennis”.
