Lacoste looks to preserve manufacturing skills

The company has invested €1 million in the Lacoste Manufacturing Academy to ensure that some of its production can continue to take place in France.
A first intake of 29 apprentices began their training in September, with two further groups to join in the next few years. The total number of trainees will eventually reach 100.
The academy covers three key skill areas: hosiery, dyeing and sewing. The courses are taught by experienced people, including former Lacoste employees, and are open to job-seekers and people who are changing careers.
Thierry Guibert, CEO of Lacoste, explained: “We had no other choice but to create the academy because the training courses for our industry no longer exist. Our workforce is ageing and we are not attracting young people anymore.”
