Greco takes forward steps with TPU and adhesive

Taiwanese plastics and resins manufacturer Greco (Great Eastern Resins) has said its focus on products such as water-based polyurethane adhesives and thermoplastic polyurethane resins constitutes an important contribution to making the footwear industry more environmentally responsible.

In recent comments, Greco said that the plastics and footwear adhesive industries are facing “an ever-tightening force” in terms of pressure to be kinder to the environment. Raw material suppliers are in the front-line of this battle, it said.

Its G Series of resins is renewably sourced and manufactured using a proprietary starch sugar fermentation process; the resins contain at least 25% biorenewable content without any compromise on performance versus traditional materials. These products can be injection-, extrusion- and blow-moulded.

Greco is presently working on a number of new materials that it claims will help to shape the future of plastics. It is attempting to use glass fibre in composites for strength and durability, for example, and says early results have produced material that is 40% stronger than aluminium.
