Puma to sponsor French top-flight side

Sportswear manufacturer Puma has signed a deal to become an official partner of French football club Olympique de Marseille, which plays in Ligue 1, the top football division in the country.

The company takes over from rival sportswear giant Adidas, which decided not to renew its contract with Marseille.

Puma already sponsors a wide range of teams including Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Leicester City, as well as the national teams of Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Czech Republic. Its roster contains come of the world’s best individual players, including Antoine Griezmann, Serio Aguero, Mao Reus and Cesc Fabregas.

“Olympique de Marseille will be the most important sports club for Puma in France and we have been very impressed by the will of its managers to actively support us on an international scale,” said Jacques-Henri Eyraud, president of the club. “This contract will provide us significant annual incomes required to allow us to achieve our sports objectives. It is the most important commercial contract in the history of the club.”
