Suunto’s new movement-sensing technology attracts interest

Sports electronic devices brand Suunto, part of the Amer Sports Corporation, has said almost 200 software developers around the world have applied to take part in beta testing of a movement-sensing software platform it has developed called Movesense.

The Finnish company has said it expects new projects for sports, wellbeing and health to come out of the exercise.

A Movesense sensor measures acceleration, rotation and magnetic field direction, all in relation to three axes, Suunto has explained. The sensor also features a thermometer.

Terho Lahtinen, senior manager of future concepts at Suunto said recently that the new technology platform will help companies interested in wearable technology for athletes “to create motion-sensing applications for any sport very quickly”.
