Sri Lankan textile company MAS Holdings has unveiled plans to open its first manufacturing and development centre in the US.

It will invest nearly $20 million in the facility in Randolph County, North Carolina, which will create 133 new jobs.

MAS Holdings already operates facilities in 15 countries, employing more than 85,000 people.
It has recently stepped up its activity in the smart textiles industry, forming partnerships with various startup companies in Silicon Valley and New York in the field of wearable technology.

Mahesh Amalean, chairman of MAS Holdings, said the facility will allow the company to increase the speed and flexibility of its production for the US. It will also allow it to build stronger partnerships with research institutions in the country, he added.
