Cotton Australia hosts farm tour for fashion representatives

As well as visiting the farm and factory, the fashion sector representatives took in presentations from scientists at the Australian Cotton Research Institute (ACRI).
Adam Kay, chief executive of organiser Cotton Australia, said afterwards: “The tour connected both ends of the cotton supply chain allowing brand owners, retailers and designers to meet and learn from the farmers who grow some of the world’s highest-quality sustainable natural fibres.”
Mr Kay said the visitors also took on board a message about the seriousness with which the Australian cotton industry takes its social and environmental responsibilities. The country’s cotton farmers have reduced their use of insecticide by more than 90% over the past 15 years, while increasing water efficiency by more than 40% since 2003.
“Global interest in sustainable, responsible cotton production continues to build. Cotton Australia works hard to bring the story of Australian cotton to the world, and as more and more consumers demand environmentally sustainable and ethically produced fibres, we are well placed to meet that demand,” Mr Kay said.
