Government minister opens Techtextil-Texprocess 2017
The 2017 edition of the Techtextil and Texprocess exhibitions in Frankfurt formally opened on May 9 with a speech from federal government minister Dirk Wiese, secretary of state for economic affairs and energy. He urged the textile sector to continue its efforts to create new technology, new processes and new jobs.

He then presented the Innovation Awards given to exhibitors at both Techtextil and Texprocess. Winners included a solvent-free polyurethane coating from Oct2pus in Belgium and an alkaline-resistant polyester yarn from Durafiber in France.

Another award winner, and one that attracted a lot of attention after the ceremony, was the Tex-Lock bike-lock, a lock made entirely from textiles developed by three entrepreneurs from Leipzig who raised their start-up capital through crowd-funding.
