Fair Wear Foundation and International Labour Organisation to work together

22/05/2017
Campaign group Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) and Better Work, a programme run by the United Nations’ International Labour Organisation, have announced they will work together to improve working conditions in garment factories.

They will join forces to fulfil three primary objectives. They will co-ordinate factory assessments to reduce the duplication of audits, streamline improvement processes and make a wider range of training opportunities available to tackle “priority workplace issues” such as sexual harassment, health and safety.

At the time of the announcement, Better Work director, Dan Rees, said: “In an industry with more than 60 million workers and much still to be done to improve adherence to international and national labour standards, we welcome this partnership as a step towards creating decent work for all.”

The collaboration between Fair Wear Foundation and Better Work will officially begin with an 18-month pilot, starting in June. The first trial projects will be in Vietnam and Bangladesh, in factories from which FWF members and Better Work business partners source.
