New pack will ‘revolutionise load-carrying’, Arc’teryx says

The original Bora backpack was the first to introduce a thermo-moulded back panel and hipbelt to the outdoor industry when it came out in the mid-1990s.
“Many of my designs are driven by a personal desire not to suffer in the mountains,” said Larry Reid, Arc’teryx hardgoods designer, at the time of the relaunch. “Having a hip belt ride up and down, endlessly chafing while I haul myself up a long hill is something that’s always irked me. Being in the mountains requires a lot of this movement, so I’ve had a lot of time to obsess on the issue.”
A patent-pending piece of technology called RotoGlide is at the heart of how the the hipbelt works on the new Bora. It rotates freely along with the natural movement of your hips and glides along a track to follow the movement of the back. These movements allow a natural stride while reducing lumbar and hip discomfort.
“It wasn’t a happy Eureka moment when the idea of the RotoGlide came to me,” Mr Reid said. “I was merely trying to minimise the pain of getting to where I wanted to be. The result is a technology that will revolutionise load-carrying.”
The Bora AR also introduces a new ventilated, thermo-moulded back panel, ergonomically shaped to improve fit and carry comfort.
