New hydration idea will help outdoor fans use fewer bottles

Wetsleeve is a patented, lightweight, refillable “hydration solution” that walkers, runners, cyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts can wear on the forearms to make hydration easily accessible during exercise and to lessen the impact on the environment by cutting down on the use of plastic bottles.
On announcing the new product, DNS quoted figures suggesting more than 50 billion disposable water bottles find their way into consumers’ hands each year and that, despite the recycling options that exist today, more than 80% of these bottles end up being dumped. At a time when many cities are making drinking fountains available for people to refill drinking receptacles, the company decided the time was right for a product such as Wetsleeve.
It can hold 350 millilitres of liquid and is available in small, medium and large sizes.
“Being an avid outdoors enthusiast, I hated having to carry a water bottle with me and the impact on our environment is highly alarming,” said co-founder David Herring at the time of the launch. “I needed a lightweight and comfortable solution that gave me easy access to the hydration I needed, without weighing me down. With the Wetsleeve, we were able to achieve just that. It provides the perfect balance of convenience, comfort and capacity.”
Crafted from breathable, soft, water resistant materials, Wetsleeve is also gentle on the skin, the company said. A 3D mesh lining on its underside lets the skin breathe while giving an elastic, yet firm and streamlined fit, while an insulated lining will help keep liquid cool. A silicone mouthpiece situated towards the wrist allows the user to hydrate “effortlessly from a natural, ergonomic position”, it added. Wetsleeve also incorporates two built-in pockets perfect for carrying personal belongings like cards, keys or headphones.
